🦎 Eric & Ernie: A Tale of Two Emus
(and One Who Might Be Slightly Unhinged)
Let’s talk about Eric and Ernie, the tall, feathery brothers from
another mother—both born in 2020 and hand-raised by Hele
like the beloved, oversized poultry babies they are.
But while they may look alike, their personalities are worlds apart.
One is a gentle snuggle muffin.
The other is... Eric.🐣 Raised With Love (and Zero Clues This
Was Coming)
Hele raised these emus from tiny, wobbly chicks. Same food.
Same cuddles. Same gentle words of encouragement like,
“Please don’t attack the paddling pool again. ”And yet. Ernie: Sweet.
Calm. Cuddly. Leans in for hugs, Would write you a thank-you note
if he had thumbs.
Eric: Would eat the thank-you note, chase you for fun, and peck
your phone screen just for existing.
We’re still trying to figure out what happened.Same upbringing. Total chaos gremlin vibes from one.
Basically, Eric is an emu-shaped plot twist.
⚽ Football, Pools & DramaDespite their differences, the boys love a few things in life: Chasing a football like they’re playing for Emu United ,Jumping in and out of kiddie pools, splashing like giant toddlersStaring you dead in the eye with unnerving intensity (Well… mostly Eric on that last one.) Ernie plays nice. Eric plays... like he’s planning a coup.
🧠 EMU FACTS (Because Education is Important)Let’s break it down:
Emus are the second-largest birds in the world (after ostriches) and can grow up to 6 feet tall.
💨 They can run up to 30 mph. Which is great when they’re chasing a ball. Less great when Eric is chasing you.
🧠 Emus are curious, intelligent, and full of personality. Some more murdery than others.
🥚 Male emus incubate the eggs and raise the chicks. (We’re hoping this mellows Eric out if he ever settles down. Not holding our breath.)
🏡 Eric’s Enclosure (aka His Crime Prevention Plan)You might be wondering, “Why don’t they free roam like the other animals? ”The answer is simple:Eric is... not safe. Not for the other animals. Not for Hele’s shins. Not for society. So the boys live in a large, safe, enclosed paddock with toys, footballs, pools, and space to run—and limits on how much chaos Eric can cause before 9am.
Ernie, meanwhile, just lives there because he’s loyal, fluffy, and hasn’t yet figured out how to file for emancipation.
💸 Why Sponsorship Helps (Even With the Feathery Weirdos)Raising two six-foot drama birds isn’t easy or cheap.
Your sponsorship helps with:Food (LOTS of food)Pools, enrichment toys, and tough footballs (they go through them… fast) Vet care, fencing upgrades, and minor emotional support for Hele Extra treats for Ernie, who deserves them for being the family peacekeeper
You’re not just helping birds. You’re helping a birdy brotherhood thrive—flaws, feathers, and freakouts included.
👉 Sponsor Eric or Ernie TodaySponsor the snuggle monster or the bird-shaped security risk—and help us keep their paddock peaceful, their footballs inflated, and Hele (mostly) unharmed.Embrace the chaos. Support the emus.
